This Round Stand (candle stand) of cherry was made at the New Lebanon (Shaker) community in the first half of the nineteenth century. The legs were referred to by the Shakers as umbrella or spider feet.
The legs are fastened to the pedestal with (hand cut) dovetails.
A wedged tenon holds the rectangular cleat, tapered and chamfered for concealment, to the top of the pedestal.
The finish is 3 coats of clear satin varnish.
